We are so lucky to have the Gibb River Road, and all of its natural beauty on our doorstep. Though it may be alluring, the Gibb River Road is not an adventure that should be undertaken without considerable planning.

Here are 3 things you should know before the taking the Gibb!

1. Vehicle preparation

The Gibb River Road is a remote, rugged and challenging road so it's essential that your vehicle is thoroughly prepared. Make sure you have spare tires, fuel, water and recovery equipment. Depending on your route, you'll need to consider a 4WD or high clearance vehicle and make sure its serviced before the journey!

2. Seasonal Considerations

The best time to travel the Gibb River Road is during the dry season, which typically                                                                                                                               runs from April to

October. During the dry season temperatures can be hot and humid, so it is important to ensure that you pack supplies like sunscreen and plenty of water. During wet season the road may be closed, or conditions may become impassable due to flooding which can create dangerous driving conditions.

3. Attractions and Accomodation

The Gibb River Road is known for its amazing natural attractions including gorges, waterfalls, and rock formations. Planning your route ahead of time to ensure that you have time to stop at some of the spectacular attractions along the way. Accommodation is limited, so it’s essential to book in advance if you’re wanting to stay at a lodge, campsite or station along the way. Alternatively, you can bring your own camping gear and set up camp in one of the designated areas.
